Born 1972 in Rotorua, David Alsop started collecting artworks in the early 1990s. He has his first introduction to art dealing in 1997 through a professional association with Peter McLeavey.
Alsop and his wife Susannah Shaw made many international arts contacts during a five year stint living in the Netherlands. Soon after his return to New Zealand, he had a chance meeting with Neil Pardington on a bike ride around the South Coast of Wellington. Eight months later {Suite} opened at 69 Owen St, Newtown, Wellington.
The opportunity to be the first in the Southern Hemisphere to exhibit works by artists including Desiree Dolron and James Aldridge was one of the catalysts for the establishment of {Suite}. The other objective was to create an international market for the artists the gallery represents. By exhibiting alongside significant international artists, New Zealand artists are show-cased through {Suite} to a discerning international audience.
Alsop holds an LLB Hons (First Class) and BSocSc (Geography and Political Science).
