Born in Christchurch in 1960, Boyce has been living in Hong Kong since 2005. His work divides, very broadly, into two areas.  The first is an interest in, and continuing exploration of spirituality and language, and are what make up the bulk of his endeavors.  The second is an area called, very loosely, "Random Beauty", and is an attempt to find beauty in the everyday world.  These then divide down and recombine into a range of areas, themes, obsessions and concepts that are part of an every day interaction with the world.

Boyce's work generally, consists of multiple images.  He likes to develop a visual narrative in his work.  At a minimum it will be a diptych or triptych.  Other times it will be a substantial group of images that make up one unified work. This comes from a desire for the viewer of the works to move their eyes around and engage with what is in front of them.

Whilst working in a predominately conceptual arena his work acknowledges a wide range of influences, from renaissance artists to abstract impressionists, minimalists to post modernists.

Boyce has exhibited in New Zealand, Hong Kong and the United States and his work is held in a number of private, public and corporate collections in New Zealand, North America, Europe and Asia.
