Barbara Strathdee
The painted canvas becomes a wall of colour; the wall resembles an outsized page written with the details and motifs which have sustained the artist's imagination. The precarious balance of image and line hint at things not spoken; fragments of our lives and histories in a fragmented language allowing for ambiguity of meaning and interpretation.
Born 1941, Strathdee is now based in Wellington after years of travelling between the cultural environments of New Zealand and Italy.
